Our fragrances are inspired by some of the world's most admired fine fragrance compositions. "Inspired by" means we studied a reference fragrance — its structure, its character, its emotional quality — and used that as a creative starting point. It does not mean we purchased a dupe oil or a pre-made concentrate. Every Petals & Smoke formula is built from scratch using individual aromatic materials, formulated and tested by us, and engineered to our own performance standards.

Designer fragrances carry significant overhead — licensing, retail markup, distributor margins, advertising budgets, and packaging costs that have nothing to do with what's in the bottle. Our model is direct-to-consumer, which means a larger share of what you spend goes into materials and formulation rather than into the supply chain. We optimize for performance: longevity, projection, and a scent that holds together from first spray through the end of the day.

Most inspired-by brands source pre-blended fragrance oils from suppliers — the same concentrates available to anyone willing to buy in bulk — then dilute and package them. We formulate from the ground up. Our founder is a second-generation perfumer. Our co-founder holds a chemistry degree. We build every formula from individual materials, run a minimum of 30 development iterations before release, and test extensively on skin. We are not a repackaging operation.

No. Our reference fragrances are creative inspirations, not technical templates. We build formulas that capture the spirit and character of a reference scent using our own materials, ratios, and development process. The result has its own identity.

We work with natural absolutes, resins, and essential oils alongside high-quality synthetic aroma chemicals. We select each material based on quality and performance — not based on what's cheapest. We do not use bulk pre-blended fragrance oils, cheap filler carriers, or diluted concentrates.

All Petals & Smoke fragrances are formulated and produced in the United States. We do our own blending, filling, and quality control in-house. No offshore production, no contract manufacturing.

Our target wear time is 8 to 12 hours. All of our fragrances are Eau de Parfum concentration. Individual results vary depending on skin type, hydration, environment, and application method.

Apply to pulse points — wrists, neck, behind the ears, inside the elbows. Let the fragrance dry naturally. Do not rub your wrists together — this breaks down top notes and accelerates evaporation. For longer wear, apply to moisturized skin.

Longevity is how long you can smell the fragrance on your skin. Projection is how far the scent carries from your body into the surrounding space. A fragrance can last 12 hours with modest projection, or project strongly for 4 hours then sit close. We engineer for both.

Skin chemistry — pH level, oil production, hydration, and even diet — affects how fragrance molecules interact with your skin. This is why we recommend testing on skin rather than relying on paper strips or reviews alone.

We accept returns on unopened full-size bottles within 30 days of delivery. Discovery Sets are final sale. If you receive a damaged product, contact us immediately.

Each set contains 5 sample vials (2ml each), curated by theme. That's enough for 4-6 full wears per fragrance — enough to experience the dry-down and make a real decision.
